Brands create products and target select demographics, but it doesn't mean they know the true character of the demo they're targeting. I've literally had brands ask things like, will an african-american market understand this creative campaign. And I learned that those kind of questions have to be asked, or the communication will continue to be ineffective, inauthentic and non-engaging.
